Dewatering entails the removal of ground water from solid material or soil. Construction dewatering is a process which is generally used on construction sites to remove excess water, as too much water being present at a site may compromise the structure under construction. It is a procedure which can be performed with a hydro vacuum excavator truck. 

Due to its purpose, dewatering can be used in areas which have been affected by flooding. With floods recently affecting South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales, hydro vacuum excavation trucks are in high demand to clear up floodwaters to get construction projects back up and running as fast as possible.

How does the dewatering process work?

The dewatering process uses solid-liquid separation processes such as centrifugation and filtration. Other dewatering methods and processes can be used, such as removal of residual liquid from a filter cake by a filter press as part of various industrial processes.

Construction dewatering, unwatering, or water control are common terms used to describe removal or draining groundwater or surface water from a location. These locations include riverbeds, construction sites, caissons, or mine shafts. 

Outside of flood recovery, dewatering may be implemented before subsurface excavation on a construction site. This step is implemented for foundations, shoring, or cellar space to lower the water table, the area in which the pores and fractures of the ground are saturated with water.
